Jomtien lies just south of Pratumnak Hill, around 10 to 15 minutes by car from Walking Street. Its beach runs for several kilometres, with deckchairs, seafood restaurants and water sports, and the atmosphere is noticeably calmer and more residential than central Pattaya. Many long-stay visitors and retirees rent condos here, so there are good-value apartments as well as hotels. There is a night market and a relaxed bar scene, and the northern end around Dongtan is known as gay friendly.
