March is a great beach month and a weaker one for the north. Both island groups are sunny and the sea is warm and calm, while prices start to ease from their peak. In Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Pai, smoke from crop and forest fires often reduces visibility and air quality, so keep your time up there short or skip it.
