A moving historical testimony to the WWII Death Railway.
A wooden bungalow rocked by the current, framed by jungle-clad cliffs.
The Kanchanaburi War Cemetery holds almost 7,000 prisoners of war who died building the Death Railway. The nearby Thailand-Burma Railway Centre explains the history clearly.
The train still runs on the historic line, crossing the Tham Krasae wooden viaduct along the cliff. Sit on the left heading north for the best view.
A pretty waterfall right by the road and the railway, easy to combine with the train ride. It is fullest in the rainy season.
Many riverside hotels rent kayaks or organise short descents. A gentle way to see the limestone scenery.
A big golden Buddha and a pagoda on a hill overlooking the rice fields, reached by stairs or a funicular. The view at the end of the day is superb.
Further north, a lake and a wide, multi-tiered waterfall much quieter than Erawan. Best with a rented car or a private driver.
In the evening, stalls near the bridge and along the river road sell grilled fish and local dishes. The bridge is lit up at night.
