What opened, and for how long?
The 2026 Udon Thani International Horticultural Expo began admitting visitors on 1 November 2026 at Nong Dae Wetland in Muang district, according to the Bangkok Post, which reported that the opening ceremony was held the same day. It runs 134 days, to 14 March 2027.
The grounds cover more than 1,030 rai and hold 32 international gardens from 17 countries and two international organisations, plus 16 gardens presented by Thai organisations, the paper reported. More than one million flowering and ornamental plants are shown on rotation, so the planting changes over the five months. Deputy Prime Minister Yodchanan Wongsawat arrived on a special inaugural train before the ceremony. The paper notes it is Thailand's second international horticultural exposition, after Chiang Mai in 2006, and that the theme links people, water and plants around sustainable living.
Who is it for, and when is it busiest?
Organisers target more than 3.6 million visitors across the 134 days and estimate that the 2.5-billion-baht event will generate about 20 billion baht in activity, the Bangkok Post reported. The run covers the cool season, the New Year holidays and Chinese New Year, so weekends and holiday weeks are when the largest crowds are expected.
The expo works best as one stop on a wider route. It sits in the middle of Isan, within reach of Khon Kaen, Phanom Rung and the Mekong at Nong Khai, and November to February is the most comfortable stretch for travelling the region, as our month-by-month guide sets out. Our things to do selection covers what else fits the same dates.
How do you get there, and what is still unconfirmed?
Nong Dae Wetland is roughly 15 minutes from Udon Thani airport. The extra Thai AirAsia flights reported on 23 October 2026 remain as published: up to six a day from Bangkok Don Mueang, four a week from Chiang Mai and four a week from Phuket.
Two practical details are missing from the reports: no daily opening time, no closing time and no ticket price. The Bangkok Post also reported that a further 250 million baht was approved for event management, maintenance and promotion after earlier questions over the budget, with officials saying the sum was needed to meet International Association of Horticultural Producers requirements.
