In short

What to do

  1. 1Check the official biennale programme for the venue list, opening days and admission rules before you set out.
  2. 2Choose one or two venues near your hotel or near what you are already visiting that day, instead of crossing the city.
  3. 3Check at each venue whether admission is charged: the opening announcement gives no prices.
  4. 4Keep an afternoon free rather than a full day if you only want a first look at the main programme.

What is on, and for how long?

The Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 opened on 29 October 2026 and closes on 28 February 2027. The programme lists more than 200 artworks by 72 artists from 29 nationalities, shown in 11 venues in Bangkok. Two side programmes, BAB Plus and BAB Fringe, extend the offer beyond the main festival venues.

The organisers present the biennale as a link between contemporary art, the city's cultural heritage and movement between neighbourhoods, rather than a single exhibition in one building.

Who is concerned, and what does not change?

Travellers in Bangkok between 29 October 2026 and 28 February 2027 who are interested in contemporary art. The event changes no visa, entry, transport or money rule: it adds an option, it removes nothing. If contemporary art is not part of your plans, your itinerary stays as it is.

For a city stay it competes with temples, markets and museums, so weigh it against the rest of the things to do in Thailand, and treat it as an alternative to a day trip from Bangkok if you want a slower day.

How to fit it into a Bangkok stay

Because the programme is spread over 11 venues, the practical question is geography. Pick the venues closest to your hotel or to what you are already seeing that day instead of trying to cover the whole biennale.

  • Read the official programme for the venue list and opening days before leaving the hotel.
  • Plan one or two venues per outing and group them in the same part of the city.
  • Check whether each venue charges admission.
  • On a first trip, the biennale fits into a standard route without moving dates: see the first trip to Thailand itineraries.
