What changed since the floods?
Thai Airways said on Monday 5 October 2026 that bags waiting at Suvarnabhumi had fallen to 862: 150 belonging to passengers on outbound flights and 712 to passengers on inbound flights, according to the Bangkok Post. At the peak, 7,175 outbound and connecting bags and 5,423 inbound bags were stored at the airport, around 12,600 pieces in all.
That day, passengers asked to collect 300 bags, leaving 412 pieces for staff to process. More employees reported for duty than the airline had planned: 1,348 against 1,278 expected, the Bangkok Post reports. If your bag is still missing, keep receipts for essentials and check your travel insurance cover.
Are flights back to normal?
According to the airline, yes: its scheduled flights were 100% operational on 5 October, with 122 inbound and 123 outbound Thai Airways flights listed at Suvarnabhumi that day, and no delayed cargo left in its warehouse. Two points have not changed: the 37 cancellations for 29 September, 30 September and 1 October stand, and cargo acceptance stays slowed rather than suspended from 1 to 6 October. Why was the airline's president removed?
The board removed president Chai Eamsiri over the flight disruption that followed the floods; the Bangkok Post dates the decision to Friday 2 October, citing local media reports. He had earlier apologised for the airline and promised to clear more than 5,000 bags left at Suvarnabhumi. Tourism Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul had criticised the airline's handling, saying it damaged Thailand's reputation and hurt tourism, and suggested management resign if it could not fix the problem. Tickets already issued and baggage claims are not affected; travellers who booked through an operator should contact it, as with any organised tour.
The disruption began with severe flooding in eastern districts of Bangkok, which left many Thai Airways employees, baggage handlers among them, unable to reach the airport. Almost 48 hours of unbroken rain led the city to declare a flood disaster, and parts of Bangkok were still under water the day before that declaration. Four people died in the Bangkok floods, among at least two dozen deaths in the wider flooding, according to the Bangkok Post.
