Where to book in Nan: our two picks

Nan is small and quiet, so the old town is the easiest base. Our independent pick is a homestay-style boutique hotel facing a temple; the second is a resort with a pool just outside town.

By Kylian Dev

  • One independent address
  • One mid-range option on Trip.com
  • Weak points written down

Our short list

  • Nirvanan Boutique Hotel — 10 Soi Phaya Phu, directly across from Wat Phaya Phu, Nan old town. The independent address we would book for something with character.
  • Nan Seasons Boutique Resort — Baan Nhong Tao, Muang Tuet, Phu Phiang (409 Moo 3), outside Nan town. The easier, mid-range choice.

Best season: November to February is cool and clear; the hills turn green in the rainy season but the roads can be slow.
