Where to book in Ayutthaya: our two picks

Ayutthaya works best as a river stay: temples by day, the Pa Sak river in the evening. Our independent pick is a small boutique hotel on the river; the second is a mid-range hotel a short walk from the railway station.

  • One independent address
  • One mid-range option on Trip.com
  • Weak points written down

Our short list

  • BAAT Boutique Hotel — Ho Rattanachai, on the Pa Sak River (74 Moo 10), Ayutthaya. The independent address we would book for something with character.
  • Ayothaya Riverside Hotel — Wat Pako Road, Kamong, next to the railway station. The easier, mid-range choice.

Best season: November to February is the coolest and driest stretch for walking among the ruins; March to May is very hot.

BAAT Boutique Hotel

Riverside boutique hotel · Ho Rattanachai, on the Pa Sak River (74 Moo 10), Ayutthaya

What convinced us is the clarity of the idea: a river-facing house built around crafts, rather than a generic hotel with a view. We would book it for one night of slow Ayutthaya after the ruins.

Three things that make it special

  • Every room faces the river, from 36 to 75 sqm
  • A riverside café and Thai restaurant with a floating deck

The weak points

  • Bookings are non-refundable and date changes need 30 days' notice
