The Cliff Bar & Grill is a Mediterranean restaurant on the headland between Chaweng and Lamai, on Koh Samui's east coast. Its Italian head chef, Sergio Martelli, cooks King Island beef, seafood landed by local fishermen and traditional Italian pasta, with a Spanish tapas menu from noon to 5 pm.
Our recommendation
Why we would book this table
We would book The Cliff for the one dinner of the trip that has to feel like an occasion. The setting does half the work, with tables on a terrace over the rocks and the bay opening below, and the kitchen does the rest with a clear line: Australian beef flown in chilled, seafood from the island's own boats, pasta cooked the Italian way by a chef from Italy. At lunchtime the mood changes, with Spanish tapas to share in the shade. It is the address we give couples who ask where to celebrate on Samui.
Best for
- A dinner with a sea view
- Couples and celebrations
- Long tapas lunches
What makes it special
- Terrace tables right above the sea, set in two evening sittings: 6 pm and 8.30 pm
- Australian beef from King Island, grain fed for 150 days, flown in chilled every week and never frozen
- Seafood delivered every day by local fishermen, and herbs picked from the restaurant's own garden

The Cliff Bar & Grill: your questions
Opening hours, booking and what to order, answered in short.
Do I need to book The Cliff Bar & Grill?
For dinner on the terrace, yes: the sea-view tables are set in two sittings, at 6 pm and 8.30 pm, and they fill first in high season. Book online on the official website or by phone; if the terrace is full, indoor tables are offered at 7 pm and 9 pm.
What are The Cliff's opening hours?
Every day from noon to 10 pm. The Spanish tapas menu runs from noon to 5 pm, and the Mediterranean menu of head chef Sergio Martelli takes over for dinner.
Where is The Cliff on Koh Samui?
On the cliff between Chaweng and Lamai, on the east coast road (124/2 Tambon Maret). The map on this page shows the exact spot; a taxi from either beach is the easiest way to come for dinner.
What should I order at The Cliff?
Order the Australian 200 g fillet if you came for the grill: King Island beef, chilled and never frozen. Otherwise ask which local seafood came in that morning, and at lunchtime share tapas such as salmon ceviche, garlic prawns or calamari with chorizo and olives.
Is The Cliff a good choice for a special occasion?
It is the table we would book for one: a terrace over the sea, a large selection of imported wines and set dinner sittings that give the evening its rhythm. Mention the occasion when you book.
Can I pay by card at The Cliff?
Yes, major credit cards are accepted, and so is Alipay.
