What changed since 24 October?
The rain warning we reported on 24 October still runs to 28 October; what is new is its effect on the ground. According to reports in the Thai media, including The Phuket News, rain overnight on 25–26 October triggered flash floods and mudslides in Patong. Mud, rocks and debris came down on Soi Nanai 5 and Soi Nanai 8, and Nanai Road was closed in sections while crews cleared the road. The reports differ over which soi was hit hardest; both are described as affected.
The same reports put the number of affected households and businesses above 100, with damage to houses, cars, motorcycles and hotels. Flooding was also reported in parts of Kamala and in Phuket Town. For the seasonal background, see our guide to the rainy season in Thailand.
Which roads are affected, and how much rain fell?
The highest 24-hour total on the island was 142.8 mm at the Khlong Ka Tha Reservoir station in Chalong, and three stations on Phuket recorded more than 100 mm, according to those reports.
- Soi Nanai 5 and Soi Nanai 8, Patong: mud, rocks and debris on the road.
- Nanai Road: closed in sections while clearance work continues.
- Kamala: flooding has reduced to one lane the road linking the Phuket FantaSea junction with the traffic lights by the 7-Eleven.
- Kamala–Patong route: police advise avoiding it where possible.
What help is available, and what happens next?
According to the same reports, the municipality opened three places for people who need assistance or a temporary bed: the Patong municipal office, Wat Suwan Khiri Wong School and the Patong Bay Hill Hotel. Tourists caught by the flooding were helped, and Thai and international visitors stayed in their hotels until conditions improved.
The same reports say the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation sent a Cell Broadcast message at 8.30 am on 26 October warning of sudden flooding, water running off forested slopes, landslips and flooding in low-lying areas. The Thai Meteorological Department forecasts more heavy rain for Phuket on Wednesday 28 October and advises mariners to avoid thunderstorm areas, where waves can exceed two metres. The wider rain risk across southern Thailand is unchanged, and nothing in the reports extends the provincial alert beyond 28 October.
