What has changed?
Virgin Atlantic's Heathrow–Phuket service began on 18 October 2026, when the first flight left London and landed in Phuket the following morning. The airline operates the route three times a week as a seasonal service, scheduled to run until 26 March 2027 according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Outbound flights carry the number VS214, return flights VS215.
TAT said a joint marketing campaign for the route generated 9,079 bookings, and describes the service as wider UK access to Phuket, with trade engagement aimed at longer stays, higher spending and travel on to neighbouring destinations in the south. For travellers, the practical change is a direct flight from London to the Andaman coast that avoids a connection in Bangkok.
Which days, and how long does it take?
| Flight | Days | Departure | Arrival | Scheduled flight time |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| VS214 London Heathrow → Phuket | Wednesday, Friday, Sunday | 3.45 pm | 9.55 am next day | 12 h 10 |
| VS215 Phuket → London Heathrow | Monday, Thursday, Saturday | 11.45 am | 7.25 pm | 13 h 40 |
The aircraft is a Boeing 787-9 with 258 seats: 31 in Upper Class, 35 in Premium and 192 in Economy. Virgin Atlantic's planned refurbishment of the 787-9 may change that layout; Boeing has announced a configuration with 44 Upper Class seats, 56 Premium and 127 Economy.
Who is concerned, and what does not change?
The route matters most to travellers from the UK who want to reach Phuket without connecting in Bangkok, and to anyone building a winter 2026–27 itinerary in the south around fixed flight days. Arrival transfers are covered in Phuket Airport, and the coast's swimming season is set out in When to go. Travellers shaping a package around the flight can compare options in Organised tours.
Entry rules are unchanged: visa and entry requirements and immigration procedures at Phuket are the same as before, and other London–Thailand connections and other Phuket flights are not affected. The service is seasonal, so a trip after 26 March 2027 will need a different routing.
